Remember, Celebrate, and Act
Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the death of civil rights
leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated in Memphis,
Tennessee in 1968.
The teachings of this remarkable man have made a lasting impact on societies
throughout the entire world. Dr. King’s teachings and beliefs of equality
for all people can be achieved through non-violence exemplify the teachings
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With this year’s theme in mind,
Remember, Celebrate, and Act, GSBC joins in the celebration with the rest of
the world, in remembering the life of such a great man.
We ask the community of FAITH to take a moment in silent prayer on January
21st to thank God for Dr. King and others like him who have gave up their
lives unselfishly to fight for equality for all mankind. We furthermore ask
that as African-Americans we teach our children about our history so that
they will REMEMBER the struggle, CELEBRATE the victories God
has blessed us with and ACT on the injustices that still exist not
only in this country but with mankind throughout the world… for we are all
God’s children.

Fifth Sunday Outreach Program
Pastor Ridout has ordained each fifth Sunday of the
year as Outreach Sunday. Our goal as a church is to reach the lost
souls for Christ and encourage those who are saved to be actively
involved in a local church. Therefore, we encourage each member to
invite/bring some un-churched individual(s) each Sunday morning; but
especially the fifth Sunday.
Rev. Eddie Hughes has been a member of GSBC for approximately two
years. When he joined GSBC he introduce us to several outreach
ministries that he was involved in. He presently ministers to the Firm
Foundation on Tuesday and the Lighthouse Ministries on Thursday
nights. These ministries are transitional facilities for men only.
In December 2007, the Men Ministry of GSBC under the leadership of
Deacon Charles Harris established An Adopt a Man Ministry. The man we
adopted in December is Mr. Paul Cooper. Paul came out of the
Lighthouse Ministry and is now living in a two bedroom home with a
roommate. The Men Ministry has agreed to assist with his rent and
utilities for a reasonable period of time.
