Rev. Curtis Ridout, pastor of Greater Second Baptist church on 5615 Geyer Springs Road was named as the pastor in
September of 1963. Under his guidance this shepherd has led his flock through three property acquisitions. The most recent being in November of 1996 when Greater Second Baptist moved from 2815 Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to their current location on Geyer Springs Road. Whereas their church campus is the largest African
American church campus in the state of
Arkansas. Under Pastor Ridout's tutelage,
Greater Second Baptist has instituted several ministries and programs that
not only ministers to his members' individual spiritual needs but also to
the needs of the family.
We are so
grateful of how far God has brought our church. We give THANKS and
PRAISE to him FIRST because he is worthy. As we move
forward let us be mindful of the progress that has been made and continue to
strive toward the mark of higher kingdom works. It is so encouraging to see
the outreach ministry within the community such as the housing of UAMS Head
Start program and the Charter School soon to be in operations on our campus.
(Updates on the opening of the school will be made periodically.)
The
Prison Ministry continues to be a strong resource under the Mission
Department with Brenda Williams and Rev. Eddie Mitchell, coordinators.
Thanks to all those involved for their faithful commitment.
The Lord has blessed our church by increasing our membership each Sunday and
during weekday services. We encourage new members to get involved in the
financial support of the church with your tithes, offerings, and the “Find
Us Faithful” five year pay off plan. We are thankful for the increase in
Wednesday Night Bible Study and encourage all members to attend Sunday
School. These are the tools for learning about how God wants us to live and
his will for us.
I truly can say to God be the glory for the things he has done, is doing
and will do! Progress is in action as we speak. My vision for GSBC was to
have a school on this campus. Well, last year (2006) the opportunity
presented itself to that means and plans were made for this to happen. This
year, 2007 it has become a realty. The Dreamland Academy Charter will open
when the regular LRSD began. Members be encouraged and encourage
yourself in the Lord for the things he is doing. Have patients and wait on
his purpose and his time blessings will come. Continue to be faithful in
commitment in every aspect of stewardship. Pray without ceasing and be good
to each other in the spirit of love by this all men will know that you are
his disciples.
“Study
to show yourself approved a workman for God, rightly dividing the word of
truth.”
God Bless
you this Day and Always,
Curtis Ridout, Pastor
